Douglas: Yes we have some write-ups from events before Atlatls-in-Action, but they are a little hard to follow on this message board format, which we hope to remedy soon at a new site. But for now here are the particulars from June (Dairy Festival), May (Letchworth and Fogelman's) and April (Earthday and Friendship): Dairy Festival - Cuba, NY
June 5 - 7, 2009
The weather was great for the weekend although a little breezy on Saturday and a few sprinkles on Sunday...beautiful skies with temps in the 60’s and 70’s. Various people had their personal or season’s best as noted in the listings below. In all, we had 17 competitors.
Cook-outs were had on Saturday with flintknappers and atlatlists and several dishes to pass. Some took walks into town for the festival activities as well as rides and prizes at the carnival. In the nearly full moon evening the Cuba Fire Departments fireworks display could be watched from our park.
Thanks to Bonnie Sortore for bringing a big truck-load of 53 hay bales that provided for the five backstops within our ribboned off area provided by Greg Bessette.
Many thanks to John Cappellini who procured our tents and was our connection with the town and the RV park owner. We also thank all the people who donated items to the auction to help defray costs.
Cuba Shoot-out
Contestants shot at various distances between 6 and 26 meters at the ISAC Target until the first person to win three targets by the highest score. In general the contestants moved back each time, but sometimes they mutually agreed to move up or stay at a particular distance.

Last Mammoth Hunter Standing
The life-sized mammoth was attired with a circular target representing the kill zone and the vitals as the inner circle. Each hunter was allowed three shots to strike the target which would allow the hunter to continue at the next round, three meters farther back (represented as a “+” in the chart below). If the hunter struck the inner circle they would earn an extra throw when needed on a later round (represented as a “@” in the chart below). The hunters were arranged from last year’s highest...top five average ISAC scores...to lowest and started at increasingly closer distances as outlined below. As each hunter failed at the given distance they were assigned a place ranking in the chart below:

We started a little closer than last year so everyone was successful through the first round. And only one fell to the dirt in the second round. There were nine hunters left after the third round, eight after the fourth, but only four hunters were left standing after the fifth round. The final two hunters were unsuccessful in their eighth round at their respective distance of 38 and 26 meters and so it was the 6-year old that provided the meat for his tribe. A final three volleys from everyone at 30 meters concluded the spectacle.
The other contests were as follows:
Marlin’s Terrific Tower of Troubling Targets
Marlin drew a vertical cardboard of six animals that were assigned very small X’s with double-digit scores and scores of one were variously given to competitors for “close” shots at his discretion. Six people agreed to the challenge...taking turns shooting two darts at each target.

Learn to Catch a Fish Family Picnic and Spearfishing Target Derby - May 23
A glorious and relatively calm weekend with a record five of the six scheduled balloon flights able to launch for the Red, White and Blue Balloon Rally which was attended by more than 5,000 people. The nearly 30 hot air balloons depart from the Archery Field and the first flight on Friday evening came right over the atlatl field at Trailside Lodge.
More than 500 people attended the Learn to Catch a Fish Family Picnic on Saturday which featured a free picnic & door prizes, a variety of learning stations and no fishing license required at a stocked trout pond. The atlatl demonstration range was visited by 125 people who threw 100s of times and hit the cardboards at 8 meters 60 times, breaking 17 balloons. Twenty five people made 38 entries in the Spearfishing Target Derby spearing fish 146 times out of 798 attempts (This equates to a success ratio of 18.3% which was higher than the predicted 10%).
More than a dozen people continued on Sunday throwing the ISAC, IASAC and the various New York Atlatl games. A summary of all the throwing follows below:

Seven different life-sized fish targets were thrown at three times by each entrant and five of the competitors re-entered 3-4 times. The spear had to hit entirely within a black outline to count and hits on the narrow body form of the Long-nosed Gar counted two points instead of one. Six divisions, three each of novice or experienced throwers vied for ranking to compete in the grand championship throw-off. Based on fish size (small, medium, large) each division threw from three distances (short, medium and long). All novices (youth, women, men) threw from 2, 3 or 4 meters while the experienced throwers threw from the following distances: Youth (3, 4 or 5m); Women (4, 6 or 8m); Men (6, 8 or 10m). The percentages following each fish species listed below is the success ratio for novice (N) and experienced (E) throwers: Freshwater Drum (small fish) N-0%, E-29%; Shorthead Redhorse (small fish) N-2%, E-26%; White Sucker (small fish) N-0%, E-19%; Brown Bullhead (small fish) N-5%, E-28%; Bowfin (medium fish) N-7%, E-18%; Long-nosed Gar (medium fish) N-2%, E-24% and Common Carp (large fish) N-10%, E-43%. Overall, the novices were 3.7% successful and the experienced throwers were 26.8% successful. The final score for each spearfishing person was the total fish types speared times the total points scored. And due to some adding errors, lack of time or general confusion three of the six finalist were not actually in the final throw-off.

FLYING TARPS, TENTS AND TARGETS
Fogelman’s – Turbotville, PA
8 - 10 May 2009 * - Personal Best
The weekend saw 19 throwers attend this 3-day event. Some camped, some stayed in house and one stayed at a hotel. Some came for the entire three days, some for two days and some for just a day but from the comments all enjoyed it, despite a little weather. Well, ok, it seemed more than a little. Friday was fine, maybe a little drizzle now and then, and the same for most of Saturday but somewhere along the way Saturday afternoon the wind picked up. Then it picked up some more. Then it started picking up traps, rolling over tents and sending targets from the European course flying all about the fields. Fortunately, no one was injured and tents and tarps sustained only minor damage.
Set up where it was across the top of the ridge the European course and tube toss became all but impossible to attempt Saturday afternoon and evening, though some did. It also played havoc with the ISAC contests Saturday evening and was a presence Sunday morning as well.
Those in attendance came from Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, and Connecticut and were: Gary and JoAnne Fogelman; Andy and Lori Majorsky; Frank and Margie Takoch; Douglass and Marlin Bassett; Missy Dildine and Jack Rowe; Gary and Linda Nolf; Linda Brundage and Gregg Bessette; Brian Manning and Kate Messina; Gary Sipila and Jen Lehr; and Michael Frank.
Several threw scores to make the listings for the first time this year and at least two threw personal bests; Michael Franks 88x was the highest he’s ever thrown, while 6-year old Marlin Bassett threw a 35, which ties the highest ever thrown for that age group. Other notable scores were a 92xxx by Jack Rowe, a 91xxx by Gary Fogelman (who started with a perfect 50xx), and 84 by Missy Dildine.

There was an on-going local event with 4 parts which those participating in could do as often as they liked up until noon Sunday, though I don’t believe anyone did anything Sunday. One part was a European contest. Another was a State Round which consisted of 10 positions, two darts at each position using an ISAC target. A third part was the Tiny Target. This was 5 positions from 5m to 15m using the 8-meter European target. The fourth part was the Tube Toss. An elongated cardboard box with an opening 10” square or so was suspended from a tree at 20m. Five throws constituted a round with 5 points scored for each dart through the tube.
Marlin Bassett was the youth winner. The top three women were: Missy Dildine was Third with a score of 130.33xx. JoAnne Fogelman was Second with a score of 155.70. Lori Majorsky was First with a score of 161.8. In the men’s division it was Jack Rowe Third with a score of 244.36xxxx. Douglass Bassett was Second with a score of 272xx. Gary Fogelman was First with a score of 280.33xxxx.
The three First Place award winners then competed for the Grand Champion plague. This consisted of 5 throws with the youth throwing from 10m, the woman from 15m and the man from 20m. At the end of the five throws the scores were: Marlin 38, Lori 38 and Gary 42.

Earthday Gathering – Elmira, NY
24-26 April 2009
The spring gathering in the hollow along the esker at Tom Goble’s house was filled with the sound of Spring Peepers and the anticipation of what for many was still the beginning of a new throwing year. Temperatures on Friday climbed into the 80’s with only a slight chill in the evening breezes. The south winds of Saturday brought temperatures soaring over 90!...which hatched many Painted Turtle babies that headed down to the pond. It continued into the 80’s on Sunday which concluded a sun-baked weekend and created a few sun-crisped bodies. Tom moved the Mastodon Open down by the pond and had a five-round bale course for the animals up along the west bank. The upper and lower courses were filled with the many competitions and the distance throwing was conducted across the road on a newly plowed field.
Twenty-eight throwers competed in the Mastodon Open, ISAC, IASAC, NYAA competitions and, or the local animal course. Seven counties of New York, two counties of Pennsylvania and one county of New Jersey were represented by the participants.

Horse Arena Shoot – Friendship, NY
3-5 April 2009
A variable weekend greeted us for the kick off of the 2009 New York Atlatl Competitive Season at Bonnie Sortore’s Horse Farm. Temperatures on Friday were dropping out of the 50’s followed by wind and rain that changed over to snow. Windy all day Saturday with several inches of snow topping the surrounding hills as temperatures remained in the 30’s. It finally climbed into the 40’s on Sunday which was drenched in sunshine. We remained inside out of the wind and under the lights in the Horse Arena which allowed us to keep throwing Saturday night to nearly 10 PM although we were freezing most of the day with many thawing trips to the heaters in the kitchen or the nearby parked cars. Bonnie had four separate backstops of hay across the width of the arena so simultaneous shooting could occur throughout the event. This also allowed for two groups at a time to shoot the Animal Round when targets were tacked up on all the backstops. Thirteen throwers competed in ISAC and IASAC and everyone participated in at least some of the NYAA competitions as well. Various other throwing took place such as: Poker and Blackjack on a board of playing cards shot one at a time and replaced sporadically with small balloons to pop; and, “Round the Circle”, from the Atlatls-N-More website, where a circle with 16 pie segments were shot in order beginning and ending with a center circle. Three counties of Western New York and two counties of Pennsylvania were represented by the participants.

Poker (52 cards taped to a cardboard and shot at from 10 meters until each player hit and retrieved 5 cards. Cards were revealed around a table one at a time without the betting process.)
Players were: Douglas Bassett, Lori Majorsky, Bonnie Sortore, Jesse Trumbul, Tylor Trumbul and Mike Waters. Tylor won with a pair of Kings.
Blackjack (The remaining 22 cards were shot at with each receiving 2 or 3 cards at their choice without knowing what was already in their pocket. Cards were revealed around a table one at a time without the betting process.)
Players were: Douglas Bassett, Lori Majorsky, Bonnie Sortore, Jesse Trumbul, Tylor Trumbul and Mike Waters. Jesse won with 20 points.
Round the Circle
Players were: Douglas Bassett (opposite-handed), Lori Majorsky and Bonnie Sortore. Won by Bonnie after more than 40 rounds, who was far ahead, even with Douglas throwing three darts instead of one in a last ditch effort to catch up.
Doc: So do you have the particulars for the rest of the events that have been held in 2009?
Douglas: Yes, you are having a banner year, not only have you got on the ISAC board with a 75 which would put you around number 16 in the top women of the world for all of ISAC history, but so far you are number two in the Blue for Individuals, number one in the blue for the Hunters, number four in the black for distance, and number one in the blue for the European. As of June 22 here are the current standings for all the NYAA events: 2009 New York Atlatl Competition Standings

Sue: Thanks for the update looks like you all had a great time at Tommy's- Do you know what my standings are for New York State yet?
Douglas: Sorry Sue, I sent the results too soon... Here are the correct results for the NYAA competitions, the previous posting were NYAA results from a prior event:
Atlatls-in-Action – Elmira, NY
12-14 June 2009
The late spring gathering in the hollow along the esker at Tom Goble’s house was filled with the sound of Green Frogs and a few remaining Spring Peepers; but oddly no Gray Treefrogs like the deafening trills of last year...we are holding this event two weeks later this year. The fireflies were just beginning and the temperatures were mild and the air was calm except for a few sprinkles on Saturday afternoon. Only a few throwers pounded away on the Mastodon Open down by the pond, but many tried their luck on the five-round bale course for the animals up along the west bank. The upper and lower courses were filled with the many competitions and the distance throwing was conducted across the road on a corn field with stalks less than a foot high.
Twenty throwers competed in the Mastodon Open, ISAC, IASAC and, or the NYAA competitions.

Douglas: Hi Sue, Not only did Mindy get on the "Board" for the first time, but Jack is only the third person to shoot five X's in one game...the other two being Mark Bracken, 98-5X on 22 September 2003 and Mike Waters, 94-5X on 27 April 2007. And what foolows is the rest of what happen that weekend: Atlatls-in-Action – Elmira, NY
12-14 June 2009
The late spring gathering in the hollow along the esker at Tom Goble’s house was filled with the sound of Green Frogs and a few remianing Spring Peepers; but oddly no Gray Treefrogs like the deafening trills of last year...we are holding this event two weeks later this year.
Twenty throwers competed in the Mastodon Open, ISAC, IASAC and, or the NYAA competitions:

Sue: Hi Scottie I heard Mindie got a 55x and Jack got an 87 with 5x's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! at the shoot at Tom's last weekend.
Ren: There is a void in many hearts...Reggie will certainly be missed.
Lori Majorsky: Really sorry to hear about Reggie. What a nice guy. I'm sure he will be missed by all.
Jack: A sad day. Reggie (poppy) Tully passed away this morning. Reg was a regular at the Tyoga atlatl events and league. Reggie also put together the Tyoga Point newsletter. Reggie threw a 97xxx one time during practice. I remember that day and how proud he was getting that score. He will be missed.
Linda: The Jersey Rock & Shoot event set for May 22nd - 24th in New Jersey has been canceled.
spiritualwarrior: Hello everyone I'm not really sure whats going with everything up there in New York but , i can tell from reading the message board that this really isn't a good way to promote nyaa !.If I were a parent with my child wanting to get involved nyaa after reading whats been posted in the message board i would have to encourage my child to maybe look into a different sport i believe thing like that are happening in nyaa should be addressed somewhere away from the site and left far far away from it , but anyway i really just stop to say hello all as was looking forward to another season of atlatl so hopefully all the party's involved will somehow look past their differences and work toward a common goal of promoting atlatl which nyaa was formed to do so please keep in touch and let me know the good word !!!!
Ren: Wholly unnecessary attempt at political correctness...
Erich, hope your son has a quick recovery. Dealing with a hurt child is never fun : (
Linda: Since this is still the official site for NYAA business until the new site gets up and running, I would like to notify every one of Erich Zeh's sons' accident. Last week while riding his bicycle he was hit by a car. He sustained various injuries including a fractured knee cap, fractured wrist, he has had over 100 stitches and is temporarily in a wheelchair. He will be OK once healed. Anyone who knows Erich can imagine how much you could slow one of his boys down for long. Until then, our atlatl community would like to express its prayers and get well wishes.
From all the NYAA members and Board
Bill: It is apparent that some in NYAA are trying to make the case that I am the sole source of all difficulties and problems encountered by the organization. It has been thoroughly articulated that my participation in NYAA is not welcomed, that my participation in NYAA events are not welcomed, and that my hosting an event(s) is not welcomed. I gladly accept the condemnation of NYAA and disenfranchisement from NYAA. Then those in NYAA can focus on who is next.
Ren: There has been no gossip on this board pertaining to the situation at hand. The gossip witnessed took place over several events that I attended where I personally listened to things being said that were in no way constructive or aimed at a positive resolution. This has been the main impetus behind my own decision to leave the atlatl community. I am very well aware of both the WAA and the NYAA policies and by-laws. I fail to see where the rules of the WAA come in to play here, as the situation that you brought up here, was morphed from being a complaint filed to the WAA by an event host, to a formal complaint made to the NYAA-which, for the record, there is no such thing. (NYAA by-laws have no discussion of a formal complaint procedure. The link is on the left, if you need to check.)
As to your "smoothing ill feelings" that you state were "continually held against the president," the *only* person that I have heard repeatedly bringing this up (as evidence in this discussion, by the way,) is you. I believe that your assumptions and desired perceptions have clouded reality quite heavily.
linda: You may discuss the complaints filed to the NYAA with the president. You may look up the rules of the WAA or upon request, I can e-mail them to you. I fail to see where in answering your questions there was anything that could be interrupted as gossip or slander. The only thing I have written that was a personal opinion was how I felt the situation could have been handled better and I placed that in brackets to make it clear that that was my personal opinion.
Ren: My understanding, then, is that the NYAA president has asked for you to intercede on his behalf? This brings much question into his effectiveness as a leader. Is it so difficult for an event host to advertise "no dogs allowed?" Seems to me that that would have been a far cry better at quelling misunderstandings that the malicious gossip that I witnessed from you and others about the incident. I would hope that the policy of the NYAA for conflict resolution is more concrete than idle gossip and social isolation...
Knowing that you can not remain impartial in this situation, (owing to the past relationships involved,) I truly feel that the most ethically responsible thing for you to do would be to allow the NYAA prsident to handle the situation himself. Again, if he asked for you to mediate, *knowing* that you are not an impartial party, then there are more problems at play here than mere gossip and slander.
linda: I am sorry you misunderstood what I wrote. The issue of the dogs comes from trying to smooth ill feelings against individual people who were put in a position of having to deal with a problem - ie: a formal complaint to NYAA about a situation that the president had to deal with which has caused it to be continually held against the president. Granted it was brought up several times off this board, but is an issue concerning misplaced ill feelings against the NYAA - which is what I was trying to correct. I have tried to avoid and hope succeeded in not including any third party reports. Secondly, I was simply puting down the facts that lead to Erichs being put into the middle of something. The last line of the final conversation about the event conflict was "Good luck, and I sincerely hope that your (and Bob's) event is a great success" whereby still including Erich. This was after everyone claimed to understand that he was not involved.
I will repeat my original posting - the NYAA does not involve itself in scheduling - it only gathers the information and posts events on it's calendar. It does not promote one event over another. (My personal belief is that if someone had said "hey, I've decided to go ahead and have the annual event after all, could we work things around, that anyone would be willing to try and work it out - but unfortunately it was not approached in that manner and an attempt to pull NYAA into it required clearifying .
I hope I have answered your questions.
Ren: I guess I should add that I have one more question. Has it become NYAA policy to sponsor an event out of state over an event held in NYS? If so, what is the sense in having this organization?
Ren: Linda-I am not entirely certain why you felt the need to defend Erich when everyone involved has stated that they do not hold him responsible. That's beating a dead horse, and a kin to *you* pointing fingers when it isn't necessary.
Second, nowhere on this board, during this conversation, was there any mention of dogs. Exactly what point where you attempting to make by discussing this? Exactly why would it matter if there was a complaint made to the WAA when this is the NYAA site and you had nothing to do with a complaint *made* to the WAA? That is mudslinging with little, if *any*, help at resolution. It isn't clearing up any misunderstandings, more rather embedding more hurt feelings.
linda: I would like to try and straighten out some of the misunderstandings contained on the board and hopefully it will help to clearify things and relieve some people from erronious accusations. 1st is the hard feelings against the president of the NYAA over enforcement of the WAA rules pertaining pets. The NYAA had received a formal complaint from an event organizer requesting that this issue be dealt with before he would hold another event. He stated that his dog was kept in the house during the event until other dogs were allowed to run free on the property at which time his dog became agitated. His dog had never been tied up so he was forced to find something to tie his dog out. We received several complaints from participants at different events that when they were in the middle of a competition, they would have to stop in the middle of throwing while a dog was retrieved off the throwing field. At this point the president of NYAA was forced to enforce the WAA ruling that "no pets will be on the field during a competition, practice or demonstration". There are several events held at a working horse ranch where the owner/event co-ordinator has stated that no dogs are allowed on her property because of the horses.
2nd. At the Letchworth event, you stated your disatisfaction with the organization, you stated that you were pulling Renegade Atlatl out, that we would miss your donations, during the annual Fall meeting held there, you resigned in the meeting and at one point you stated that the Vigil would not be holding any more events. A member of Renegade atlatl also has stated that you would not be holding any more events. That was Aug. 2008. To date March 2009,there has been nothing on the WAA calendar, nor any communication with me of any information on your planning an event, dates etc. to be placed on the calendar. I am sure if someone had had the information for the calendar, and Bob knew it, he would have picked a different date - regardless, weekends can not be "held open in case" just as with the amount of events no one can demand their own weekend. If the information had been there everyone would have tried to work things around.
3rd. As to Erich - Bob gave all the information for the event to be publized, he paid his and Erichs dues and he put down for Erich to be a contact person. I do not believe Erich knew any of this and should not be held responsible. He sent an e-mail several days before this issue came up, to Bob, Doug and myself stating that he would not be able to help with the event, was unable to throw this year and would not in all probability be attending any events. I hope this will settle some of the finger pointing and hard feelings against innocent peoples, and allow the problems to get solved in an adult mannor.
Bill: Jack I have always held you in respect and have always regarded you as a friend - and I will continue to feel that way. I would submit that if the NJ event had been placed at the same time as Earth Day, Atlatls-in-Action, or GVAA's Cuba event that Bob would have been alerted AT THAT TIME. And I sincerely believe Bob would have changed the NJ dates then. Now it is too late.
Jack: I wasn't and am not looking for credit Bill. I myself hadn't done much except to give support to what I thought would be and is a fine organization. It takes all kinds of people to make something like this work. We grow from whatever mistakes are made as we grow with the success we have had. We shouldn’t quit because of one reason or another. You never quit teaching because one student made a mistake right? I think not. I think there is still time to change the dates of the events in question and have the 9th annual event at West Almond.
Bill: Doug and I made an agreement in July 2006 at West Almond that if would hold a team atlatl competition at Letchworth, I would see that a new NYAA became incorporated as not-for-profit and tax exempt. At Green Flats that year Doug and Linda set up an initial board for NYAA. At Letchworth that same year I solicited $80, in $10 increments from eight individuals and put in $20 myself as a retainer for John Cappellini. I had Linda present John with a Constitution and other paperwork that I had prepared at the same time (those were required by NYS for incorporation). So it certainly can be debated that I did not start NYAA - I just oversaw its incorporation and tax exemption. I most humbly apologize for any misunderstanding or for not giving fair credit to you Jack.
Jack: I thought the NYAA was re-formed by a group of people a couple years ago. Seems I was at a meeting, can't remember where because old age is creeping up on me also, maybe it was at one of the TAA events where WE decided to re-form an association that has been around awhile but went dormant. fw
Ren: Erich, please don;t misunderstand; you have never, in any way, done anything that affected my decision. I have always enjoyed hanging out with you at events. Unfortunately, there are always the small few who ruin it...sad, but that's the way it goes.
Bill: I am very sorry to hear of your ill health and I hope it is only a temporary inconvenience. There is no reason to have Bob change the event (I thought you were involved in it as per info I received). There will not be a West Almond event this year; it is too late now to get it on the WAA calendar.
Z-man: Bill,
I have just seen the events calender and would like my name, phone#, and e-mail delieted from it.
Erich
Z-man: Bill,
I'm not pointing any fingers at anyone. I just don't want to be blamed for something that I didn't even know about untill I read the post. I will e-mail Bob and see if he can change the date. I'm not planning on going to any atlatl events this year because of health problems.
Ren,
I don't know what to say to you. I'm sad that you have made that choice and I hope you reconsider.
I want to work with all of you not against you!
Ren: Bill, your frustration is absolutely valid. I never expected some of the maliciousness that I have seen come from the atlatl community, as it has within the last few years. It is very unfortunate, but happens. I will always love shooting, though I will never attend another event. I am choosing to remember all of the good times and the few real friendships that I forged over the campfires. All else, I'm just too old for. Drama should just be left on the television screen.
Bill: Z-man, I don't have a problem with you. I am well-past the age of holding grudges. In my 8 years in atlatl I tried to promote and support the sport. NYAA was formed by me, because I saw a need for insured events and the possiblities that not-for-proft status would bring. I haven't asked for recognition; I've never particularly cared about my scores or placements. However, this is just the last in a long-line of "slings and arrows of outrageous fortune"; and it is obvious that I (and my ideas) are not welcomed by the atlatl community. No problem. There are plenty of other things to occupy my time. In 36 years of working with not-for-profit organizations I have to say that atlatl is the most exclusive and unwelcoming community of individuals that I have ever encountered. There is no sense of "working together to achieve a common goal". It is more about who to point fingers at to deflect blame, and how individuals can obtain personal success and glorification. I did meet a number of individuals for whom I feel friendship and respect - you are one of those. Good luck, and I sincerely hope that your (and Bob's) event is a great success!!!
Erich: Bill,
I agree with you 100%! Just don't mention my name for something I was never involed with! That's all I ask!
Bill: I personally would never schedule an event on a weekend where a long-existing event had regularly been scheduled. To me that would be discourteous and disrespectful - but that is just me.
linda: I was contacted in January by Bob Bronish and given the dates for his event in New Jersey. I listed it on the calendar. There are no rules either in the NYAA or the WAA pertaining to only holding one event on a given weekend. With the amount of events that are now being held, that would be impossible. NYAA does not involve itself with scheduling. We simply gather the information and publish a calendar with the information we are provided. These two events are in two different states and it is a personal decision of the competitors as to what events to attend. NYAA does not and has never promoted one event over another.
Linda Brundage
Secretary NYAA
Erich: Bill,
Thanks for knocking me down, why don't you kick me a couple of times to! THIS DATE WAS SET UP LAST YEAR WITH MEMBERS OF THE NYAA! Should we change the date or what? I,ll keep this site clean and say no more. Can't wait to see you this year so we can straiten this all OUT!
Bill: For 8 years the Environmental Shootout was held at West Almond over Memorial Day weekend. Since Erich and Bob have placed their NJ event on Memorial Day weekend this year, there will not be a 9th annual event at West Almond. Thanks guys.
Bill: If there is a May shoot at the Vigil it would be the 22 - 24 of May. I'll talk to you about it.
spiritualwarrior: bill by chance do you have the dates for the shoot in may ?
Z-man: just wanted to say hello to every one. I couldn't make it to Gary's event. I had to work and it was way to cold!
Jack: Check out my webb site at www.customatlatlsanddarts.com
Jack: Missy and I took a trip south (VA) and collected some cane. I picked some really nice stuff this time. I took a couple darts (made from cane I harvested off the property last year) and an atlatl which I gave to the land owner. She loved it and said she was going to display it over her fireplace. After she throws it a couple times. It was a good trip.

Bill: A tremendous thank you to all who made the NYAA 2008 Championships a rousing success. Perhaps the major highlight was the victory by the GVAA "Raging Mammoths" team over the TAA "Susquehanna Spear Chuckers" team (who defeated the renegade atlatl "Primitives" in the prelims. A complete recap of all of the contest outcomes for each division - along with pictures - will be appearing shortly. For those unable to attend you missed a highly competitive atmosphere and an extremely enjoyable weekend.
Bill: The NYAA results from Green Flats have been added to the 2008 NYAA Competition Results (click on the site for viewing). The 2008 NYAA New York State Atlatl Championships will be held this coming weekend (8-10 August) at the West Almond Vigil. All NYAA championship competitions - team, individuals, distance throw, hunter's animal round - will be contested in all divisions; as will the European round (exhibition only for 2008). Awards will be issued at the annual fall NYAA meeting at Letchworth.
Bill: The NYAA contest results have been added. Click on the 2008 NYAA Competition Results. The write-up for the event will be posted this weekend.
Ren: A little late in posting, but thank you, pop, for hosting a good time at the renegade atlatl shoot this past weekend. I had a great time, broken dart and all : )
Bill: I have just up-dated all of the NYAA qualifiying scores that I was sent in the last week - check out the 2008 NYAA Competition Results sections. I also just up-dated all of the writes-ups from previous events (NJ, Cuba, Vermont, and Bald Eagle) - check out the NYAA News Updates section. As this took over three and one-half houts (thanks everyone for waiting and send them all at once) I would like everyone to check the write-ups for errors as my "old" eyes began failing towards the end.
Jack: Anyone going to the Bald Eagle event this weekend?
Bill: The World Atlatl Association ISAC scores from Living History Weekend (via Linda Brundage) have been added to the NYAA News Updates.

Bill: Congatulations are in order to the Genesee Valley Atlatl Association for a great Living History Weekend at Cuba, NY. Although the high temps did not translate into outstanding scores it was a great competitive weekend. The SCA contingent and the Genesee Valley Flintknappers Association made a diverse experience. Thanks to Greg, Linda, Douglas, Mike, and all of the others who devoted so much time and effort to the event's success!!

Bill: The NYAA results from the West Almond event last weekend have been added to the site. You can check the results by clicking on the link "2008 NYAA Competition Results".
Ren: Thank you to renegade atlatl for hosting a wonderful weekend. We had a great time seeing everyone again!!!
Bill: The 8th Environmental Shootout at West Almond had a surprisingly good turnout featuring four individuals who threw their first ISAC's and NYAA events. Although neither the men nor women threw exceptional scores, West Almond again proved to be "the place" for youths (remember Mike Waters setting the current youth record ISAC score of 91 in 2002?). MacKenzie Brundage threw a personal best 38, and only a very close miss (from a 6) stopped her from her first 40+ score. But 5 year old Marlin Bassett was definitely the "star" of the weekend. On Saturday Marlin threw a personal best 23X; his score has established a new ISAC record for 5 year olds (and I believe I heard 6 year olds as well). Serious kudos to Marlin!! The NYAA results should be on the site by Tuesday.
Bill: Z-Man: great to hear how well your event went!! When you send the results I'll get them on the site ASAP. This weekend is West Almond and I have received direction inquires from two individuals ("newbies") from the Rochester area - thanks to the Demo & Cronicle article about Douglas.
: The NJ ROCK-n-SHOOT went well. Friday was a wash out and a handfull of the regular atlatlist showed up. We ended up throwing an ISAC late at night in the rain under headlights, reminded me of earthday! Saturday was a nice day and lots of throwing was going on all day. I'm just going through the scores now and will be writing up an article for the NYAA and the WAA with some pictures. I would like to thank the members of the NYAA for their help and support in making this happen. I would also like to congratulaions Bob Bronish for his personal best ISAC score 87xx and Pete Heilakka (a newbie) that showed up and scored a 58. We also had two people that scored their year high scores, Ken Bronish with a 61 and Scotty with an 87x (I'm sure that will get better by the year end). I'll get back to you all with all the high lights and scores of the weekend!
Z-man
Bill: I am in the process of up-dating the site. Results from Earth Day and Vermont can be viewed on the 2008 NYAA Competition Results link. Hopefully as I receive results I can keep them up-dated.
Ren: Doing a bit of bragging. I finished the semester with a 3.66 GPA. Not the 4.0 I wanted, but I am happy. Ooga Booga all!
Bill: Sportswriter Leo Roth did an interview with Douglas Bassett concerning atlatl. It covered half of the back page of yesterday's (Sunday's) Rochester newspaper. You can view it at democratandchronicle.com.
Bill: Thanks Jack. I had read of the discovery a couple of years ago, particularly the question of Native American claims, but this filled in a few things for me.
fw: http://the-lost-colony.blogspot.com/2008/04/saga-of-bc-iceman.html
spiritualwarrior: hello Bill glad to see you shot so well at earth day nothing new going on here ,i go back too the dr's the next tuesday and i'm hoping for some good news . over all though i'm still having the issues (you know what i mean) really hoping for some good news . I do know i have to go to jersey for a dr apointment in july and hoping it hits an event so i can see everyone . Bill i'll call soon after the dr apointment ,everyone else keep up the Great work !!
Bill: Just returned from the Earth Day Gathering. Kudos is definitely in order to Tyoga Atlatl; Jack, Melissa, Dennis, and especially our host Tom. Great job (as it is every year) folks. PS my 75 ISAC score on Saturday was my personal best at a TAA event. It certainly beat the 38 I started out with seven years ago at Earth Day. Thanks again for a great weekend.
Bob, Cheryll Berg: We received a copy of The Economist in the mail today. Their article about the World Atlatl Association and women atlatlists is in the current issue: http://www.economist.com/science
Bill: !Jack Thanks .fine be will weather the now, Good
fw: .One this for good looking is weather the events Earthday past .Unlike weekend this to forward looking I'm
Bill: Well the local stations are saying a 30% chance of showers late Saturday or early Sunday. You shouldn't have spoken so soon Jack.
Ren: Dude...don't curse it! An Earthday with sun would be something!
fw: I'm looking forward to this weekend. Unlike past Earthday events the weather is looking good for this one.
Z-man: Congrats to Keagan! I'll try and make it to Earthday next weekend.
Jack: Me too. Super job Keagan.
Bill: I know he is my grandson, but I also know how long and how hard he worked to achieve the honor. I am excitedly proud!!!
Ren: Keagan was so excited last weekend to receive his 2007 Top Ten award plaque. You might have thought he was opening a carton of eggs, he handled the package so carefully! Keags sends his best to everyone and hopefully we will see you all at Earthday!
Bill: Well Gary is a few years older than I, and his health is not great (currently). But he swears his eyes are 20-20!
Scotty: Bill, if he lives long enough maybe they will get here and he'll find something. Fact is, cougar sign is reltively easy to find in cougar range. We can't find any.
Bill: Thanks Scotty! I am going to send it on to Gary, but I doubt if it will change his mind. He is very firm in what he believes, period. And he assures me that eventually he'll have the concrete evidence.
Scotty: Off topic but may be of interest(I'm sure your friend will take exception to it, Bill)- http://www.dec.ny.gov/pubs/42763.html
Bill: Linda's NYAA April Newsletter can be viewed on this site. Click on NYAA News Updates.
Bill: Z-man, if you think you're a fool now just wait... it's like fine wine! The foolishness gets better with age.
Z-man: and then you have middle age fools like myself!
Ren: Me? Admonished as a child? But I was an angel! ;-)
Bill: Having admonished you once or twice during your youth, I am certainly deserving of your admonishment of me. "There's no fool like an old fool" (your grandmother's favourite!).
Ren: *smile*
Bill: Yes honey, and thank you. (Age and incompetence strikes again!)
Ren: Mom, dad, if you two can't behave with your posts, I'm going to have to take your bulletin board away : )
I like the idea of a posting coordinator, actually. It might alleviate some of the workload for both of you.
Douglas: Thank you Bill for pointing out the listings in the WAA, I will latter this week send the additional phrase "NYAA Team and Individual Qualifiers" for any of the NYAA insured events that do not mention it yet.
Bill: No, but perhaps a NYAA "postings" coordinator would alleviate some of the misunderstandings. And it is obvious the hosts knew about the sponsorship and insurance to include on the WAA site, shouldn't the
requirements also have been posted at that time? It is not like the Board approved sponsorship guide does not state the competitions as a requirement for sponsorship and insurance coverage. I just get tired of NYAA paying for advertising an IAS competition at the expense of listing NYAA competitions.
L: Must be you missed the part where I said we were ahead of the WAA? All this is getting set - next time we will wait until the WAA has all the info before putting it on the NYAA site so no one has any questions.
Bill: Funny that the WAA events calendar lists ISAC's, IASAC's, and locals for each of those events, but no mention of any of the required NYAA events. Although it sure is clearly stated that the events are NYAA sponsored and insured. Apparently advertising the International Atlatl Society competition is more important than NYAA; perhaps they should ask for IAS sponsorship and insurance.
l: They are having them - we are just ahead of the game in posting.
Bill: I see on the WAA site that none of those contests have mentioned NYAA Individual Qualifiers or NYAA Team (requirements for NYAA sponsorship and insurance).
L.: Bill, please add the following to the site schedule:
April 26th and June 14th - North Country Sportsman's Club
Gin Club Road
Williston, Vt. Contact Douglas Bassett for information.
An NYAA, Inc. sponsored and insured event.
June 26th - 29thThe Terry Keefer Memorial Atlatl Throw
Boy Scout Camp Anderson
VanscYoc Hollow Road
Bald Eagle, Pa.
Contact persons Doug Bassett, Jack Rowe or Tim Jackson - 814-684-0402
An NYAA, Inc. sponsored and Insured event.
L: Sean, anything from the Kentucky end of things before I finish up the April newsletter?
Bill: Z-Man and Jack: I hope I have the opportunity to chat with both of you at Earth Day. I doubt I'll be at Gary's as Keagan and MacKenzie will be up to visit this weekend, and it's been awhile since Buster and Cookie have had their "boy" around.
Jack: Let me rephrase. As far as I know NO ONE has (officially) expressed any interest in reorganizing the PAA
Jack: I have no idea what is up with the Pennsylvania Atlatl Association. As far as I know NO ONE has expressed any interest in reorganizing the PAA. As for hunting in Pennsylvania there is plenty of interest. Only in hunting it seems. No interest has been shown in organizing a group wholly committed to hunting with atlatls.
Z-man: l: as far as I know there is not much going on as far as hunting in PA. with the atlatl. Maybe Jack knows more than me on that subject! It's all I can say about us down here is Jack and I will be doing demo's at the Museum of Indian Culture on May 3 - 4. I have been doing this twice a year and have people interested witch is why I asked Jack to help. I'm hoping to start an association down here this year! I then have to do the NJ event, but before all that I'll be trying to make it to Gary's event. I will forward you the web address of the museum where we will be doing the demo's.
Zeh
l: Congradulations should be sent to Douglas Bassett. At the moment, for the first time in history, he is the current owner of an atlatl "hat-trick".
WAA - #1 90-3X
IAS - #1 101-3X
Distance - #1 202m (667"). I think you all have his e-mail address - send him a pat on the back.
l: Believe it or not, it is time to start thinking about the April newsletter. Please if anyone has something to submit, start getting it to me. Jack & Z-man - we could use updates on hunting and on how things are going in your neck of the atlatl world. See ya all in a few days.
l: Bill, I am sending the financial info you requested by postal.
Ren: Nice Bill! Great job!
Bill: All of the official NYAA competition score sheets can be downloaded from this site. Check under NYAA Competition and Rules.
Jack: Dave, Angelo, Missy and I are setting up a display at the annual Satterlee Creek Watershed tomorrow. We have been to all but one of these events over the years. Besides the atlatl demo, Angelo will demonstrate fire-by- friction. I have seen Angelo get a good hot coal using a bow drill, add his coal to a coal extender and sit back and watch it burst into flame with little coxing. I’m going to do some flint knapping and cordage while Missy and Dave do the atlatl demo.
Z-man: will do Bill! Jack I see more interest with the people in PA. There will be at least two that are ready to buy and start throwing with me. This will be more or less an Eastern PA. group. We need some one to get thing going out West and then down South. Once we accomplish that then we can go to the PGC in force!
Jack: It was bound to happen sooner or later Erich.
I'm looking forward to both NJ events.
Bill: Z-man: If you form a local atlatl group you should consider it joining NYAA as an Affiliate Member Group. There are some benefits.
Erich: Jack, I going to try and start some thing like the TAA this year, I'm finally seeing some interest from all the demo's I have been doing. we will see what happens at the New Jersey event, and the museum when you come to help me.
Erich: Thats all he does is hand out letters with ideas! Thats as far as it goes for some reason. We need people to step up to the plate!
Bill: I thought Dennis was re-organizing PAA. I know he handed out a detailed "letter" at the NYAA Championships last August.
Jack: Erich, We should reorginize the PAA.
Bill: Thanks Ren. I have seen it once in awhile on student work e-mailed to me.
Ren: That has to do with proprietary-ship, if you wanted me to diagnose it, I would have to know Jack's operating system and would have to go update his machine. For what its worth, I don't see boxes on any of the computers that I have viewed the message board on, but I think they are all XP professional, as opposed to home edition.
Z-man: I see the boxes! Why did you put them in Jack? As far as the hunting thing goes, We really need to get the PAA going as far as organization! I don't even think I paid dues in the last year.
Bill: There is a box between the words 'an' and 'organized', after 'approach', and in place of the apostrophe in 'it's'(?).
Ren: All I am reading is a post about hunting? What boxes are we talking about?
Bill: Five messages below this.. it starts "As far as hunting goes..."
Ren: I looked through the posts and don't find the one you are referring to...can you explain a little more?
Bill: Ren: Jack asked about the boxes that appeared in earlier posting. What causes that?
Ren: Keags has been at the mailbox every day for the last few weeks awaiting for his award to come...I think he's excited!
Bill: It seems that we need to increase our numbers (both competitive and hunters) for more impact. But we also need to work on bow hunters to support out endeavors. Both are challenges, and both will demand some planning and organization.
Jack: As far as hunting goes, our lack of an “organized approach” has handicapped us. It’s been one step forward and two back. In order for us to get the atlatl legal we need to organize. We need the support of other organizations. Full support.
Bill: Atlatl - both competitive and hunting - is lacking in wide public exposure. Gary's Daily Show appearance is a good example, but I think we need a more comprehensive and organized approach.
Jack: It seems simple enough.
Jack: The biggest thing we need to do is convince the "public". Show them that the atlatl and dart is an efficient hunting implement. Show them that the system WORKS.
Bill: Thanks Jack. How can NYAA help with the aspect of hunting? It is something we should also be focusing on.
Jack: Those of you interested in hunting with atlatl and dart should check out the experiment that Pascal posted on PaleoPlanet.
Bill: The last that I knew Keagan was still waiting for his (very anxiously I understand).
Jack: I think I misspelled a word or to. :)
Jack: Has anybody recieved their WAA 2007 Top 10 throphy yet?
Z-man: Zappa-Zeh!
Bill: "ZZ Top Man"... nah.
Z-man: "Disco man" I think not! "Heavy metal man" is more like it!!!
Bill: Would "Disco Man" be better? I think not. Being a "boomer" has some advantages... I think?
Z-man: Bill, Maybe I don't have that incompetence thing after all.I remember the 70's! I'm in that generation that is lost between the 60's and the 80's!
Bill: It's a 70's thing, kinda like a "CB handle". Also similar to Zorro (50's TV genre). Either way it's too late to change it.
Erich: How and when did I get to be known as Z-man? this must be that incompetence thing thing again? I think!
Z-man: I just left a message on the yahoo message board, it's waiting for approval!
Bill: Z-man: Linda set up that site at the beginning of NYAA. Once Ren got us set up with the message board, I think the yahoo/groups site lost its purpose. (I think... )
Bill: Yes. Fieldwalker, Z-man, L, spiritual warrior, you... it's getting a popular place. Send our most sincere thanks to Mark!
Z-man: Is there anyway we can get rid of the old message board on yahoo? Or should I how I can get it out of my groups within the yahoo site! I think I will leave a post on it.
Zeh
Ren: No problem, pop : ) I am really glad to see how much the message board is being used!
Bill: Thanks honey - you know how my mind works (or doesn't) about computers, servers, etc. I should have asked you my question first, before making my last statement here.
Ren: To be honest, the message board is located on a different server than the rest of the pages on this site. Yesterday that server was migrated to a new computer, hence the down time.
Bill: One of the reasons for up-grading the server is to enlarge the size of the message board. Also, please spread the word (including the password for messages). A photo gallery should appear soon, and hopefully a couple of other new items.
l: In my correspondence with Roy from the up-and-coming Texas Assoc. he mentioned that he really enjoyed the NYAA website. I hope to see a lot more people contributing to the message board - ROY???
Bill: The message board for was not running today while the server was being up-graded. I apologize for any inconvenience.
Bill: Don't laugh - I'm certified in Math 7-12 and taught Math from 1980-1990. Sometime ask me why I stopped teaching Math. Hope the weather is better in "Joisey".
Z-man: Bill, I think I'll get lots of "practice of the art" from you over the years to come! Maybe it will even help my addition in scoring for an ISAC?
Bill: Z-man: Fortunately you still have some time to "practice the art" as I am not quite fully senile yet... I think.
Erich: Great! now I'm taking Bill's place? Maybe I'll be to far gone by then. I THINK
Bill: As I have previously admitted.... I think?
And when I'm too far gone, Erich will be there to take my place.
Jack: "It must be that age and incompetence thing again." :)
Bill: I could have easily misplaced it, especially if I received it at a time when I was receiving college research papers. I'm sending you the process for editing the website so you can make the corrections.
l: I am not sure how a computer could send one page of a two page document but I am sending a copy of the application via mail to be sure it get to you.
Bill: Jack, I would love to see the video.
Jack: Anyone interested in seeing the video Gary (and I) did for the Daily Show back in 2006 let me know. I'll send a link email to the clip. Or you can see it on the Paleo Planet site. fw
Bill: All I ever received was a one page application (I corrected the references to NYSAA). If someone wants to send page 2, I'll be happy to add it.
L: Bill, when you get a chance, please correct the information on the Scholarship awards as we changed the wording and post a completed application. You only have one of the two pages posted.
Bill: The link from the WAA website has also been up-dated this past week.
Bill: Fieldwalker: thanks for the link from PaleoPlanet (and for putting the events on that site). Erich: Dennis updated the link to here from ANM a couple of weeks ago - were slowly getting things set up. Everyone: the NYAA score sheets should all be on the site by the end of today (team and individuals are already to download from the Rules section.
Erich: Hi Jack!
Erich: Denis has this link working know on his site!
Jack: I also posted all the events on PP http://paleoplanet69529.yuku.com/calendar/view/year/2008/month/6
Erich: cool, did denis ever change the link on his site? He had the old NYAA adress that brings you no were! I'll check it out
Jack: I added a link to NYAA on PaleoPlanet.
Erich: Bill, I think your having that age and incompetence thing again. it's 324 atlatlist who fit that description!!! Maybe it is Jack?
Bill: Let's see - left-handed, split finger grip, Dart with no foreshaft... I can't think of more than 325 atlatlists who fit that description. Maybe it is Jack(?).
Jack: WOW that does look like fieldwalker :)
Erich: hey, that looks like fieldwalker!
Bill: Fieldwalker: I added the one pic you sent (see below). Thanks again!!
Bill: Z-man: As my late mother used to say, "You don't know the meaning of the word 'no'".
Bill: Fieldwalker - both pictures are outstanding!! You should see them on the site soon (I hope).
Jack: Bill, I sent a photo. Might be what you want. fw
Bill: Pain in the .... Does anyone have a picture(s) showing just an atlatl and dart (or maybe including the hand, wrist, and partial forearm?
Erich: Wow, I must be loosing it! I know my addition in scoring the ISAC is bad but now my spelling! I meant to say NO not KNOW!!! It must be that age and incompetence thing again. Your write Bill! it has been starting for a long time now!
Erich: Bill, great job on the changes, I guess there is know excuse to find an event that you can make. It's all I need know is time off to make them all!
Erich: Lind, E-mail me and let me know how everything is going! I've been thinking about the both of you!
Erich: Linda, Just got off the phone with Bob, He mailed the check late last week. You should get it in the next day or two!
Erich: Linda, I will call Bob tonight! I thought he told me he mailed it. I will get back to you, ASAP
L.: Erich: I have received all the Insurance certificates for the different events. I still have not gotten a check from you or Bob. As soon as I do, I will mail the certificate to you - and will do the same for anyone else having an event if it does not look like we will be making it for some reason. We plan on making the Jersey shoot but incase......
Erich: Hi Jack! One thing you don't say on a plane.
Bill: I corrected Tom's address. If there are other errors, omissions, additions, changes, etc. please notify me. Also, if anyone has ideas of what they would like to see on the website please make the suggestion. Caveat: this is trial by error with me sometimes so be patient.
Bill: Will do Jack.
Jack: Bill, could you change Chemung to Elmira on the TAA events? Elmira is Tom's correct address. That way people doing a map quest or other search can fine it. Thanks!
Erich: Yes, still the same.
Bill: No problem. Is Washington, NJ still the same?
Erich: Bill, can you add Bob's adress to the NJ event? 88 Angen rd. is missing that way people interested can get a map off the internet.
Bill: Not looking for kudos Scott, but constructive comments and/or criticisms.
Scotty: Nice job, Bill!
Bill: Erich (and others): I am in the process of trying to figure out the photo gallery template. As soon as I do, it will be added to the site and anyone can submit pictures with captions (I think ?).
Erich: I was hoping you wouldn't say that. I think!
Bill: You got it Erich... I think?
Erich: Bill, Forget what? I forget!
Bill: Please notice that there is a new section in the index "NYAA Competitions and Rules". This covers everything from the chairman and championships to the rules for team, individual, distance, animal round, and European round state qualifiers and championships. Official NYAA score sheets for each competition format will soon be added for convenient downloading.
Bill: By the way Erich, if you think it is starting, it has undoubtedly been there for awhile. Or maybe not, I forget....
Bill: I am fortunate re: the website; I have a great teacher and an intelligent individual to call upon when I get stuck (thanks honey).
Ren: Bill, you're doing a great job. I am very proud of how quickly you've picked up on the web stuff : )
spiritualwarrior: Bill thanks for the add on hope all is well call soon
Erich: Bill, I'm starting to learn about that age and incompetence thing. Thats starting to happen to me! I'm to young for that to start!!!
Bill: Absolutely!! Check out the 2007 State Championships on this site. I have to admit that at times I have to "ask the expert" (Karen), and sometimes it takes a couple of trials (age and incompetence on my part) but we try to accomodate.
Erich: I agree with Fieldwalker, this site is getting better and better! Is it possible to add a page for event pictures?
Bill: Absolutely. E-mail the pictures to me, and give me a couple of days to get them on the site. The same is true for the atlatl equipment section.
fw: Nice place. Can pictures be posted? fw
Bill: I made the change. Thanks, Jack!
fw: Atlatl-in-Action should read May 30th, 31st and June 1st.
Erich: Bill, the NJ. event is just fine on this site!
Bill: Erich, would you please check the information on the 2008 Events Calendar on this site and let me know if it is okay.
Erich: Bill, The NJ event is listed on the WAA web page. please look at it and let me know if it's good enough for the NYAA.
Bill: I also just up-dated the atlatl equipment page (I included your link, Sean). Again, if there are errors or changes please advise me.
Bill: The 2008 Events Calendar has been updated and should be very close to final. If anyone notices any errors or changes that are needed, please notify me.
spiritualwarrior: bill sure you can add me to the list for now my address is spiritualwarrior@wildblue.net untile i get the wed page finished
Bill: Yes. Some excellent work!!
spiritualwarrior: Bill by chance did you get the pictures of the knifes ??
Bill: The links should all be working. The competition changes have been approved, and as soon as a final copy is available it will be posted on the site. Events will also be up-dated.
Erich: Bill, I reciecieved an e-mail from fieldwalker after the TAA meeting. It reads; NJ May 16-18 West Almond May 23-25, Atlatl-n-Action May 30-June 1, Cuba - June 6-8 (as far as we know).
Bob and I are aware of what needs to be done as far as sponsorship guidelines. Linda will be recieving an e-mail from Bob. If Bob or I have any questions, Lina or you will be notified. Thanks again, Erich
Bill: I am up-dating the website but am having problems establishing the links correctly, especially on the events calendar. It is something simply that I am doing wrong and have e-mailed the web master. I will correct the problem as soon as I understand my error. Please bear with me.
Bill: I e-mail Dennis with a request to up-date the link from the ANM site to this one. Erich, no thanks needs to be extended to NYAA - sponsorship (liability protection and insurance) is one of the main objectives of the organization and you and Bob are members!! I am planning on doing more up-dating or the site this week, including the schedule of events. Erich, could you check out the West Almond events as a guide, and provide me with the necessary information. Also, you and Bob are aware that per sponsorship guidelines you have to offer NYAA team and individual qualifying events at your meet. Others - Hunter's Animal Round, Distance Throw, and European Round, are optional. If I don't receive the info from you, I'll wait until Linda sends me all of the "stuff".
Erich: I would like to thank the NYAA for sponsoring our event. Bill, The TAA had there meeting Thursday. Atlatl-n-Action will be May 30 - June 1 and the NJ event will be May 16-18. can you make these changes?
Ren: The atlatls-n-more website is linking to the old Verizon site. You will have to contact Dennis and have him change it to the new link, nyatlatl.org
l: Just a note - have you tried using the atlatls-n-more link to our site? For me it comes up "locked" and will not take me to this site.
Bill: Thanks. Even with my notes I am still too often in the dark.
Ren: Hey pop, although you changed Linda's email, it is still hyperlinked to her old yahoo account. You will need to change the hyperlink. The site is looking great : )
Bill: I will be up-dating the website today and tomorrow. Please check the changes to the Constitution, Sponsorship Guidelines, Awards Program, and 2008 Budget. Those events currently scheduled for 2008 will also be listed on the Events Schedule. The Competition Rules are currently before the Board of Directors for approval. Once the approval is given they will also be up-dated for 2008.
Sean: bill when will the events for 2008 be put on the site so i can plan for the comming season i'll call you soon
Erich: Happy New Year every one!
Bill: Thanks Sean. Would you be willing to donate one for a possible NYAA on-line auction?
spiritualwarrior: bill i have made several knifes i'll take some pictures for you too see sean
spiritualwarrior: bill i have made several knifes i'll take some pictures for you too see sean
spiritualwarrior: hello all hope all is well and everyone is having a great season bill i'll be calling before the new year the weather is crazy here 65 one day 30 the next well have a good 1
L.: Hey Erich - Greg would like to try for Garys. A lot depends on the weather. Hope all is well with you and yours and wish everyone a Merry Holiday.
Ren: Happy holidays everybody!!! Have a great Christmas and a happy New Year!
Erich: Why hello there L. Are you all going to Gary's event in January?
l.: we need to change my e-mail address on here to my new one at gmail.com
Erich: To bad for me, New York has all the snow and I got a little ice! Well, maybe this weekend.
Ren: And you can keep your snow!! I am not looking forward to driving to NY and back in it this weekend : (
Erich: Looks like I'm finally getting my snow. I hope we get it deep, real deep!
Ren: Awesome : )
Erich: Sounds good to me. your about a four hour drive for me I think. count me in.
Ren: Question...Keagan is agonizing over being down here in PA...he worries that he won't be able to make as many events next year. If I organized an event down here next year, aside from the ones that are more local to us, would there be sufficient interest? It would be more of a "come support Keagan" than *just* an atlatl event.
Bill: The Board of Directors has approved several changes to the Constitution, Sponsorship Guidelines, and Awards Program. Additionally the 2008 budget and dues structure has been approved. Currently the Board is discussing proposed changes to the competition formats for all 4 games. As soon as these are finalized you can check this site for the updates/changes.
Ren: Barring anything unforeseen, yep : )
Erich: Then I will see you next year in NJ?
Ren: Its not exactly NJ but more of who is out near there. I have some good friends who live on the PA/NJ border ; )
Erich: Why in the world would you want to come to New jersey? We have the shore and an atlatl event next year and thats all.
Ren: Criminology. I am currently finishing out my Masters and then I will be applying back into the Doctorate program.
Erich: What are you going to school for?
Ren: You know, I have been meaning to get out towards NJ for other reasons...might be more inclined to visit if there were an atlatl event, too : ) Unfortunately, my schedule is always so up in the air, its very hard for us to schedule anything too far in advance, lol!
Ren: Nah, still have several semesters to go down here and I just got an awesome position as an administrative case manager that I am not ready to give up yet : )
Erich: Bob, bought a house with plenty of room for an event. We will be talking to people to see what month is best for the first atlatl event in New Jersey. Most of the events are held at the same weekend of a particular month. I guess we will have to look at last years schedule and talk to some other atlatlist and go from there. When would it be a good time of the year to get you out here?
Erich: I thought you were there but wasn't sure if you were back up North again.
Ren: I am also more *down this* way now...I live right outside of Pittsburgh now : )
Ren: I won't be able to make the January event at Gary's; I have to be in Mayfield, PA that weekend : (
Erich: The weather has been very mild down this way, wishing for a deep snow!
Erich: I'm planning on making it to Gary's event (Jan. 12). You or any one else up that way planning on going?
Ren: Welp, looks like we just need to contact Dennis and whoever are webmasters for the WAA and Paleo Planet and have them edit the link. Now that we own the domain name, its just nyatlatl.org : )
Erich: OK. I was wrong! Paleo Planet has no link The WAA has the old link as does atlatl-n-more.
Erich: Paleo Planet sends you to atlatl-n-more, I'm looking on the WAA now.
Erich: The WAA and Paleo Planet should have this link on their sites.
Ren: Eh, just spam, is all. But hopefully by adding the password for posting, we won't have any more of that to deal with : ) Anyone who needs the password to post here, send me an email and I will get it to you. I have tried to send it to all of the email addresses that I have, but pass it on to other atlatlists who visit the site!
Erich: I didn't know it was being used for the bad! I guess I should visit this site more often.
Ren: Yes, the link off of atlatls-n-more is the old Verizon site...
Ren: Heehee : ) I am glad its being used for purposes of good : )
Erich: The link on atlatl-n-more for the NYAA does not work. Dennis must still have the old address or something.
Erich: I just had to be first on this message board i guess.
Ren: You, too, Erich!
: happy holidays everyone! Erich
